Pune, October 3, 2021: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has appointed expert coaches to train players at Yerwada Central Prison. Atul Chandra Kulkarni, Deputy Director General of Police and Inspector General of Prisons and Correctional Services, informed that sports training for inmates will start soon at Yerwada Prison.
Kulkarni was speaking after inaugurating the “Parivartan – Prison to Pride” campaign on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Saturday. The campaign is carried out jointly by IOCL and the prison service.
The event was attended by Deputy Inspector General of Prisons Yogesh Desai, Superintendent Rani Bhosale, Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation Shrikant Vaidya, Executive Director Anirban Ghosh, Director Rajesh Jadhav, Carrom player Yogesh Pardeshi by videoconference.
Kulkarni said the nation’s father Gandhi was imprisoned in Yerwada prison to bring freedom to the country. Yerwada Prison is associated with many significant events in his life. The “Parivartan-Prison to Pride” initiative is launched on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti for inmates of state prisons.
Inmate training for carrom, volleyball and chess will begin soon and 60 inmates from Yerwada Prison have accepted the games. He also informed that opportunities will also be offered to women inmates for arts and sports.
