Sports training of 75 athletes as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: CM Bommai

Under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, 75 athletes are being trained to compete in the upcoming Olympics to win medals for India, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said. After inaugurating the 61st National Athletics Championship 2022 here on Saturday, he said the sports field was highlighted and a rural sports meeting was launched. Rural sports like Kabaddi, Kho-kho, volleyball, wrestling, bullock cart racing and coastal Karnataka kambala will be organized at village, taluk, district and state levels. The purpose of holding rural sports meetings is to give importance to rural sports. The compatriots will together inspire the sportsmen who represent India in international events. Through sport, the whole country can be brought together.

A center of excellence for sports is being established near Bangalore and this center will have state-of-the-art training equipment, coaches and infrastructure. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given impetus to the sports field. The Indian government valued Indian athletes through programs such as Khelo India, Jeeto India and Fit India. The Prime Minister personally met and encouraged those who participated in the Olympics, Asian and Commonwealth Games, which helped to win more medals at the Tokyo Olympics. It is highly expected that Indian sportsmen will win a lot of medals in the upcoming Paris Olympics, he said. “Sport is an important activity and encouraging children from school level will help them to become national sportsmen in the future. Practice, hard work and total dedication are very important in sport. Hard work and life discipline helps to develop a good character. We must develop sportsmanship. While winning helps to develop self-confidence, defeat teaches them to develop courage. Sport gives us team spirit and a good friendship, and it will give us strength to play for the nation,” Bommai said.

The CM said that Bengaluru has a salubrious climate and a cosmopolitan city. Athletes must like to train while staying in town. Winning or losing is very common in sports, but they should always play to win with a positive spirit. (ANI)
