As the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) draws closer, delegates will have the chance to take part in various sporting activities while in Kigali.

More than 8,000 guests, including senior government officials from 54 Commonwealth member countries, have confirmed their attendance for the week-long meeting, scheduled for June 20-26.

The highly anticipated event, taking place on the African continent for the first time since 2007, will be more than just a meeting as a range of social and sporting activities will be organized to entertain delegates and experience the Rwandan capital beyond. meeting rooms. .

Kigali Night Race

Kigali Night Run is increasingly becoming a popular event for Rwandans and visitors alike, and CHOGM delegates will be able to experience it.

Scheduled for June 21, participants will depart from the Kigali Heights roundabout in Kimihurura at 7 p.m. for a two-hour duration. The route of the race has not yet been announced by press time on Thursday, but it is generally a distance of 5 km.

Networking Golf Tournament

Also known as the CHOGM Rwanda Open Championship, the golf tournament is an international competition designed to provide a high level networking event for local and international companies and business people from across the Commonwealth.

The tournament will take place on the sidelines of the 2022 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Kigali on June 24 at the Kigali Golf Resort & Villas.

CHOGM Cricket Exhibition Match

Cricket is synonymous with the Commonwealth and the fastest growing sport in Rwanda. To celebrate the Commonwealth countries’ descent into Rwanda, the country’s iconic cricket stadium – Gahanga Cricket Oval – will host an exhibition match on June 23.

The main event will feature Rwanda’s top male and female players alongside other top Commonwealth players.

Delegates will have the chance to engage in fun drills with the Women’s National Team, learn about the history of Rwandan cricket, and then watch a competitive cricket match while networking and tasting delicious dishes and cocktails. Transportation will be provided.

Format: Depending on the schedule, delegates will arrive from noon to watch or practice with the Women’s National Team in fun cricket drills on the pitch.

The main match will be a 20-man mixed match featuring top Rwandan talent and top Commonwealth athletes.

Canapes, wines and cocktails will be served throughout, with DJs for entertainment.

How to participate: Participants are required to pay a fee of USD 150 (Rwf 150,000), which will cover meals, drinks and the cost of hosting the cricket match, entertainment and transportation.
