Quebec prepares to open US $ 53.9 million sports events complex


Quebec, the second best city for hosting sporting events in Canada according to the Global Sports Impact Index (GSI Canada), will open a brand new sports complex in the Sainte-Foy district on August 28 and 29, 2021.

The resort, named Intact Assurance Ice Center, aims to attract high-caliber sporting events and competitions to the city. Construction work began in the fall of 2018 for this $ 53.9 million. The hall, which can accommodate up to 2,500 spectators, includes:

  • A 400-meter Olympic speed rink
  • Four ice hockey rinks (2 NHL-sized rinks and 2 international-sized rinks)
  • 465 meter indoor athletics track
  • Gaétan-Boucher Training Center (high performance training center – long and short track speed skating)

It is one of two ISU sanctioned speed skating rinks in Canada and the fourth of its kind in North America.

Robert Dubreuil, General Manager of the Fédération de skinage de speed du Quebec, the speed skating federation of Quebec, said: “The Intact Assurance Ice Center will become a renowned venue for long track speed skating. Hosting international competitions here will not only be exceptionally motivating for our athletes, but also key to the city’s economic growth.

The Intact Insurance Ice Center also offers facilities to host events such as conferences. The complex has three amphitheatres, a large hall that can accommodate up to 700 people and meeting rooms for smaller groups. There is a spacious mezzanine, a press room and a dining room with an exclusive catering service.

The complex also offers audiovisual equipment and infrastructure for major events, with giant screens and surround sound.

The sports complex is also located about a 10-minute drive from Old Quebec and the Quebec City Convention Center. The site will be open to winter and summer sports, as well as public skaters.
