BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — After twelve weeks of hard work, a group of local kids with League of Dreams have been recognized for completing a complex sports program.
For the past few weeks, League of Dreams has partnered with A3 Sports Performance for a weekly training program consisting of specialized complex movements, agility and strength training.
“We’ve been with League of Dreams for a while now and it was probably one of the best programs we’ve been on,” said Juan Rubio, whose son, Karlo, is on the 12-week program.
Rubio said this fitness program was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for his children.
“Seeing the kids was great,” he said.
A3 Sports owner Ryan Beckwith says his training program doesn’t just focus on physical fitness, but helps athletes optimize their mobility and skill for every movement. This is why this type of program was so beneficial for the needs of League of Dreams.
“We really thought they would benefit from it and they were looking for something to do that was more health and wellness based,” Beckwith said. “We give them the opportunity to come in and be treated like athletes, like trainees when they’re doing other sports so they’re ready for their movement patterns.
The children in the program varied in age and ability, but each showed up every Saturday and worked hours. At first, each athlete trained alongside an “angel,” a volunteer who helped them through the activities, but Beckwith said as they progressed through the program, progress spoke. of themselves.
“The athletes felt a lot more comfortable not needing the angel with them,” he said. “Which has been a huge growth for us and for the athletes to feel able to do it on their own. Which is absolutely amazing.
For Beckwith and his team, seeing that growth happen is what this program is all about.
As that first 12-week course comes to an end, Beckwith says they are already moving forward with their plans to offer another program with League of Dreams. for more information, you can check out ourleagueofdreams.com.
