A fundraiser has been launched to benefit The Eliza DoLittle Society

A food delivery service has teamed up with a fitness organization to launch a new fundraising event for the Eliza DoLittle Society.

Island Fresh, which provides locally sourced ingredients to encourage healthy home cooking, and Evans Performance Training which offers fitness and nutrition training, will host the Island Fresh 5K Food Run on Sunday at the Devonshire Arboretum.

The Eliza DoLittle Society provides healthy and nutritious meals to food insecure people.

Hayley Evans, owner of Island Fresh, said: “Over the last year of operation we have often had excess food that we didn’t want to waste. While looking for a place for this food, we came across the Eliza DoLittle company. I was very impressed with the work they were doing so we wanted to see how we could help.

“This assignment, in my opinion, was a perfect fit with the values and philosophy of myself and my brother Liam, who runs Evans Performance Training.”

Evans added: “With all of my clients, whether they are athletes or people just wanting to stay in shape, ensuring a healthy, balanced diet is essential to mental and physical health. When the opportunity to support this event presented itself, I jumped on it.

The Eliza DoLittle company provides support directly to customers through its pantry in Warwick. The Pantry secures both purchased and donated food from local wholesalers, grocers, farmers, individuals, businesses and community organizations.

Each food bag contains a variety of fresh breads, vegetables, and frozen and canned foods depending on availability. Foods are rotated throughout the month to ensure variety is offered.

Clare Mello-Robinson, the charity’s executive director, said: ‘As a charity, we are always looking to try and raise funds and awareness for TEDS and the impact of food insecurity. When Island Fresh and Evans Performance Training offered to help organize an event to raise funds for us, we were thrilled to attend.

The event starts at 8 a.m. for walkers and 8:30 a.m. for runners, and is open to participants of all ages. Registration is available here until Saturday.
