DICKINSON — Sport is a huge economic industry offering a wide range of career opportunities. From business, finance, marketing and legal issues in the world of sports to embarking on a journey to work in coaching for any sport from the amateur ranks to school levels and even the top professional leagues.

Dickinson State University has received approval from the Higher Learning Commission to offer a master’s degree in athletics. The new Master of Sport Administration aims to prepare highly qualified professionals in mid-career and recent graduate studies. graduates to advance their profession as coaches or sports administrators.

The program is designed for individuals who have successfully completed a bachelor’s degree and wish to pursue a master’s degree to advance in the field of coaching or sports administration.

Beginning in the fall 2022 semester, students can pursue the MSA in a flexible online format that fits the lives of most working adults, according to the DSU Communications Department. All classes will be taught asynchronously by highly qualified teachers.

“Learners will be exposed to all aspects of sports leadership, including administration, psychology, strength and conditioning, recruiting and fundraising,” said Thadd O’Donnell, President of Health, physical education and recreation at DSU. “The program aims to prepare students for these roles, whether coaching a sport or sports or leading an entire athletic club or department.”

The new master’s program is designed for individuals who have successfully completed a bachelor’s degree and wish to pursue a master’s degree to advance in the field of coaching or sports administration.

Dickinson State is now accepting applications for admission to the Master of Sports Administration program in Sports Leadership.

“With the steady growth of competitive activities for youth and adults, both team-oriented and individual, the MSA is a sound approach to holistically training professionals in the planning and implementation of relevant, safe and sustainable sporting programs, activities and events,” John Miller, DSU Vice President and Acting Provost, said.
