The CUNY men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball teams just completed their inaugural season at the 2022 National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) Intercollegiate National Wheelchair Basketball Championships at the University of Texas-Arlington . The men earned their first-ever tournament victories with victories over Eastern Washington and Nebraska-Omaha for ninth place, while the women faced hosts Mavericks and the University of Arizona.

In addition to this partnership, joining the ranks of the NWBA is yet another step on the path to national and global prominence as the program continues to make strides since its inception. The Wheelchair Team is the result of a 2017 initiative, CUNY’s Inclusive and Adaptive Sports Platform, providing the opportunity for 11,000 CUNY students with disabilities to participate in four sports – track and field, swimming , tennis and basketball, the first sport adopted by the university. within this collegial model.
