All the sporting events happening this week for This Girl Can


Try out most of the sports UCL has to offer at the This Girl Can initiation sessions being held this week

Do you want to try a sport but you don’t want to pay the subscription and never come back? The UCL Students’ Union is hosting sporting events all week for ‘This Girl Can’. This is a national campaign funded by the National Lottery whose main objective is to celebrate the activity of women.

UCL’s ‘This Girl Can’ week runs from Monday 24th January to Sunday 30th January. All sessions are beginner and suitable for women. Check out some of the organized events you can attend.


On Monday, you can head to the Bloomsbury Theater Building for Hatha Yoga Flow. Hatha Flow is the branch of yoga that focuses on physical health and mental well-being. Hatha yoga uses body postures, breathing techniques, and meditation with the goal of creating a healthy, healthy body and a clear, peaceful mind. Held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., tickets cost £3 for a beginner-friendly session.

UCLWHC and RUMS Hockey are both hosting initiation sessions on Monday. UCLWHC hosts a fun sports day where you can take part in games like tug of war and the egg and spoon race, and RUMS Hockey hosts a beginners practice session. Both sessions run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Want to be Spiderman for a few hours? Parkour offers an introductory session with their professional coaches at Archway. On Wednesdays at 2:50 p.m., try it for free.

Active Dynamic Pilates

Want to work on your flexibility so you can pull off that half-drunk split at Scala next time? Active Dynamic Pilates is a faster-paced version of Pilates, involving low-impact flexibility training with an emphasis on strength training and endurance. If that sounds like your cup of tea, sign up for a class at the Bloomsbury Theater Building at 9am Wednesday for £3!

Lacrosse and Football

Want the best of both worlds? Join the women’s football and lacrosse club for a light session at Regent’s Park! All equipment will be provided, so just show up in your most comfortable sports clothes and studded boots if you have them. The best part? It’s free!

The scariest part of starting to lift weights is the paralyzing fear that you’ll do it wrong and hurt yourself. However, this session has you covered. Led by female instructors, you’ll be guided through weightlifting and powerlifting, learning how to lift safely. The workshop takes place on Wednesdays from 5 p.m., and is completely free.

Alright… suppose we told you that you could shake your booty for an entire fitness class. This class combines fitness with twerking moves and makes you feel empowered. The course takes place at 2pm on Thursdays and costs just £3.

Social Dodgeball

No, it won’t be like high school gym class, I promise. At Somerstown Community Sports Center you will learn the 5 Ds of dodgeball and play in a safe and inclusive environment! This class is free and takes place on Fridays at 5 p.m.

This one is another blast from the past – have you ever imagined yourself as a cheerleader? Learn how strong you are in this class as instructors guide you through stunts and choreography. This course takes place on Saturdays from 4 p.m. and is free.

Girls’ night

To wrap up this wonderful week, join Girls Night In as the women take over Bloomsbury Fitness from 7pm. Barre and Zumba classes are offered, as well as use of all gym equipment and amenities, supervised by female instructors for some guidance. The first 30 registrants receive a free goodie bag!
