Al Marmoom Ultramarathon to headline a packed schedule of sporting events in Dubai this weekend

Held under the auspices of the Dubai Sports Council, the races attract local and regional runners, as well as elite international ultra-runners. Runners from 31 countries in the region and around the world entered, as well as 54 different nationalities within the United Arab Emirates.

With categories open to both male and female runners, there is a 10 hour time limit to complete the 50km course and a 1 hour 30 minute time limit for the 5km. Trophies and prizes are offered to the top three finishers in each race category, men and women, and all participants will receive finisher medals.

As part of the UAE’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, participants are invited to take part in a Gaff tree planting ceremony around the lake at Expo 2020 Dubai, leaving a lasting legacy in the desert.

Khalid Al Awar, Director of the Events Department of Dubai Sports Council, said: “The Al Marmoom Ultramarathon is a truly unique event, which not only tests the limits of human endurance, but also provides a window about our heritage – the desert and dunes, and unique flora and fauna exclusive to Al Marmoom.

“The Ultramarathon showcases the beautiful landscape of Al Marmoom and offers participants a truly unique experience away from the bustle of the city and its sparkling light.

“We want to share our heritage with the world. In accordance with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, we want to transform the magnificent Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve into an eco-friendly sports center. environment and make it one of the most sought-after destinations in the world of sports tourism.
