3 reasons why your kids need sports training

Whether children need outdoor sports training is always a hot topic. Many parents feel that their child does not need to lift weights; they don’t have the time or don’t want to invest the money in anything else.

The counter argument is that if you choose the right training center and the right training system, it may be the best investment for your child. The main concern is that most trainers and trainers want the next big name to brag about or how much they can increase your child’s bench press. It’s a publicity stunt for most gyms.

Most parents and coaches don’t seem to have much to spend potentially thousands of extra dollars per month, unless you know your athlete really wants to play college or pro sport.

But there are a few underground coaches who understand the true meaning of what athletic training can do for your child.

Let’s put our cards on the table. The answers that follow are not based on guesswork or theory. We’ve put together a team to help you as parents and coaches understand why this can be the best investment for your child.

I agree that the physical benefits are important, so I don’t want to undermine the physical benefits that kids get from training. But there are so many other benefits besides the physical benefits. With that said, we’ll cover two exterior hidden advantages and one hidden physical advantage.

Hidden benefit # 1: mental health

One of the most frightening trends threatening the mental health of young people today and their future success is the deterioration of meaningful relationships. Another way to put it is that children lack but are thirsty for connection. This has devastating effects on their mental health and future success.

Depression and anxiety continue to rise, and today, five to eight times more high school and college students meet important criteria for diagnosing depression and anxiety disorder than 50 years ago.

As I mentioned, kids crave meaningful relationships, and as the data shows, they turn to social media and other resources to feel connected.

Consider this for a minute: How often do you or someone you know do the following?

If you show up early to meet a friend or coworker at the office or even at a restaurant and wait in the lobby, what are the chances that you will unsheath your phone to kill three or four minutes?

It would be “strange” to say hello to someone you don’t know in today’s world.

Or if someone gets up to go to a restaurant bathroom, can you wait or do you immediately check your phone?

We feel naked without our phones, and if someone isn’t around us it’s weird to be alone. So we turn to Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat to scroll and feel connected.

For example, a recent study shockingly found that the more people use Facebook, the less likely they are to feel happy.

We have heard that kids are depressed about the increased use of social media, and I believe there is a truth.

But I also believe there is a lot of truth to the idea that kids are struggling with stress, anxiety and worry more than ever before, so they turn to social media for a outlet because of depression!

Decades ago, children could achieve these meaningful one-on-one relationships in school or in their school sports. But that’s almost impossible today!

It is not the fault of the teachers or the coaches. It’s because they have more on their plate than ever.

Teachers are underpaid and overworked. They have bigger classrooms and have to juggle more students than ever before. Guidance counselors look after an average of 500 pupils per school! Time and energy play an important role here.

The same goes for school coaches. Teams are growing, especially in sports like football. I know the high school I attended between first grade, JV and Varsity, there were over 300 kids on the football team. Then add to the pressure many coaches are under from administrators and even cities to WIN and WIN NOW! Their families, jobs, and paychecks can depend on their team’s performance and, ultimately, win or lose.

Coaches love their players and want to be involved in their lives. There are a lot of different factors to consider. Getting kicked out in the dining hall yesterday probably isn’t in the top 10 on the priority list for them as a coach.

If you find the right athletic training facility, it can provide you and your child with that positive and meaningful relationship and connection!

Children want someone with whom they can feel safe enough to make themselves vulnerable. They want someone to guide and advise them in areas outside of sports like school, stress, anxiety, worry, bullying, inviting someone out, partying and a million other subjects.

While most kids love their parents, 98% don’t feel comfortable having most of these conversations with their parents, and not with coaches, because they don’t want to be judged or waste time on. game. They fear that other children will find out about them. Mentorship is the best investment in your child’s life! Find the right place, and every penny is worth it. It could save your child’s life. I witnessed it!

Hidden Benefit # 2: Accelerated Performance

When you find the right sports training center with the right system, it will quickly increase your child’s performance! Expert coaches know and understand that each individual has their own unique needs, and it comes down to determining what these imbalances are for your athlete and creating a program that supports them.

That being said, I wanted to get into performance because many parents think it only applies to major sports like soccer, basketball, or baseball. Yet this is the furthest thing from the truth. I’ve spent nearly the last decade researching the models of the top performing athletes, and strength training programs are involved in almost every one of them!

Take a second to think it over. Tiger Woods revolutionized golf for many reasons, but the obvious one is how he incorporated strength training into his routine early on.

People were blown away by how far he sent the ball, and after a few years it became the norm for golfers to train to follow Tiger.

Or how about Michael Jordan? If you’ve seen “The Last Dance” series, you know that in order to overcome the hurdle of winning a championship, he needed to step up his strength and conditioning program. Jordan even had his trainer, Tim Grover, around him at all times to practice! Please take a look at almost all of the Division I athletics sports. Most of them have a strength and conditioning program to elevate their performance. Many even have their own designated strength trainer for their sport.

Success leaves its mark. Just do what top performing artists do and insert the right training program with the right mentor for your child. Each training center has its own style and philosophy and makes sure it is right for your child!

Hidden Benefit # 3: Improved Studies

Parents and coaches, this one might be your favorite perk. You read correctly. Academics have been shown that children involved in athletic training experience higher levels of success in the classroom.

I also believe this one relates to number one above for having the right mentor in your kid’s life. Someone who can be the outside voice to talk to them.

“How you do anything is how you do everything.”

The way they focus and pay attention to detail in class is directly correlated with how they focus and pay attention to more information in their sports.

Few athletes plan to use their education to pay for their education. Far too many coaches and athletes are preaching about sports scholarships, and many sports do not even offer full sports scholarships.

Academic scholarships have become a lost art and can be a simple way to pay for school with a little focus, time and energy.

The National Center for Education Statistics conducted a study of high school athletes eight years after their senior year and found that, compared to non-athletes, they experienced:

  • Improved academic success
  • Higher test scores
  • Higher income
  • Fewer incidents of mental health problems

I know I tended to get better grades as the season training was more difficult because I think it gave me more structure.

Tying it all together

There is a long list of reasons why it is important both physically and mentally to have your child in an outdoor sports training program, but I think you are starting to understand why it can change your child’s life by outside of his sport. We all need that outside voice, and I know that as parents and coaches you’ve wondered a million times why they’re not listening to you.

But we were also all in their place at some point.

When our parents are not cool and never know what they are talking about! Lucky for me, at first I had outside coaches who played a central role in my life. Even a high school mentor who dined with me regularly. I had more in college, going through the ups and downs of being a Division I athlete.

Don’t laugh at what the right athletic or athletic training program can do for your child!

Ask the right questions and decide on the best solution for your children! It could save their lives, and mine certainly does.
